The first footwear product from ISSEY MIYAKE FOOT, “HYPER TAPING™,” was born from reconstructing the ASICS design icon—the “ASICS Stripes.”
The ASICS Stripes was originally designed not only as a visual element but also to enhance structural strength and improve fit. Inspired by this integration of function, structure, and design, MDS conceived the concept of “taping,” which stabilizes the body and supports movement. “HYPER TAPING™” incorporates this concept into its form through the combined knowledge and experience of both teams, elevating it into a new design expression.
From adopting a wrestling outsole and developing a new last (foot form), to redesigning the insole for everyday comfort and refining the combination of materials, form details, and colorways, the aim was to create footwear that is both new in concept and enduring in its universality.
ISSEY MIYAKE FOOT 最初のプロダクト「HYPER TAPING」は、アシックスのデザインアイコンである「アシックスストライプ」を再構築することで生まれました。
「アシックスストライプ」は、意匠であると同時に、当時は構造的な強度やフィット感の向上などを意図してデザインされたものでした。MDSは、機能や構造とデザインを高度に融合させるそのアイデアに着想を得て、身体を固定し、運動をサポートする「テーピング」というコンセプトを発想しました。「HYPER TAPING」は、互いの知見と経験を通してテーピングの概念を造形的に取り入れ、新たなデザイン表現へと昇華しています。
レスリング用ソールの採用や新型ラスト（足型）の製作、日常を快適に過ごすために再設計したインソールの開発に加え、多様な素材の組み合わせやフォルムのディテール、カラーリングに至るまで、新しいフットウェアであると同時に、普遍性を備えた一足を目指しました。
